‘17 years and the film still slaps’: Will Smith Is Getting Trolled for Oscars Slap as ‘The Pursuit of Happyness’ Makes Netflix Debut on February 1

Some scars cannot heal. Will Smith has been banned from the Oscars and shamed for his act of violence against Chris Rock in 2022. Fans now troll the King Richard actor whenever they get a chance, which deeply hurt the actor.

With Will Smith’s Oscar-worthy performance in The Pursuit of Happyness releasing on Netflix soon, fans trolled the actor for the infamous slap controversy. Although many people praised the movie, Smith found himself standing on the opposite side of people and their trolling.

People Continue To Troll Will Smith For The Oscars Slap

Will Smith, in a fit of rage, went on to slap Chris Rock across the face when the comedian made a joke about Will Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith. The slap was telecasted on live television as the people watched in confusion or terror whether it was scripted or not.

Almost a year later, the people have not forgiven the Man in Black actor yet as his movies continue to flop and he doesn’t appear in media as much as he did before. With The Pursuit of Happyness available to stream soon on Netflix, a Twitter account featured the news on the social media platform. People tweeted against Will Smith and mercilessly trolled the Bad Boys actor by mentioning his infamous slap incident.

With his popularity declining, Will Smith released a YouTube video on his channel that featured a teary-eyed Will Smith apologizing to the world. Seemingly unfazed, people continue to troll the actor for his rage that some deemed unforgivable. His recent project titled Emancipation had a great and intriguing plotline but managed to perform very poorly at the box office with alleged blame on the I Am Legend actor. It has been reported that many celebrities have broken contact with the actor as Hollywood seems not to want to associate with Will Smith further (not entirely).

In 2019, Will Smith portrayed the character of the Genie in the live-action remake of Disney’s Aladdin. Helmed by director Guy Ritchie and accompanied by Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott, the film received a mixed response but earned a billion dollars at the Global box office.

In recent reports, the Gemini Man actor has been alleged to reprise his role of Genie in the upcoming sequel. Although the reports are unconfirmed, insider sources stated that “he has done a lot of work on himself and the consensus is that it will all be very much in the past by the time the movie is released.”

Aladdin 2 is currently rumored to be in pre-production with an expected release date of 23rd May 2025. As for Will Smith’s The Pursuit of Happyness, the movie is currently available to rent on Apple TV+.
